is the 13th largest import country in the world and 23rd
most complex country according to the ECI (Economic Complexity Index). The
United States of America, Guatemala and Belize touches its border by land and
Cuba and Honduras by sea. In 2016, Mexico imported commodities worth of US
$387.1 billion dollars from around the world. The import growth rate increased
by 65% since 2009 but decreased by approximately 2% from the year 2015 to 2016.
The total imports of Mexico purchase from other parts of the globe are
accounted for around 2/4 or 72.6%.
According
to a recent import data in Mexico,
the United States of America play a very important role in increasing import
business of Mexico by being the largest import trading partner of Mexico. The
second top origin of Mexico’s import is China, followed by China, Japan, South
Korea and Germany etc.

Mexico, around 49% of the total imports of Mexico were brought from the
United States of America and Canada, 35.5% from Asia and 11.8% imports from
Europe. There are lots of products that Mexico imports in very large number of
quantity including electrical machinery & equipment which accounted for
21.8% of total imports, machines (17.3%), vehicles (9.6%), mineral fuels
including oil (6.5%), plastics products (5.7%). Optical, technical &
medical apparatus (3.7%), articles of iron & steel (2.2%), organic
chemicals (1.9%) and rubber & rubber articles (1.6%).
